A Mother Goddess for Our Times: Mary’s Appearances at Medjugorje
Judith Lambert sets herself a challenge in this powerful work, A Mother Goddess for our Times: Mary’s Appearances at Medjugorje. Her subject is an adventuresome way of bridging pagan and traditional beliefs. The stage: a tiny Yugoslavian village where six children have daily apparitions of Mary. The journey: one of momentous proportions as Lambert tackles history, religion, metaphysics and personal encounter, uniting them against all odds. Mother Goddess is an undertaking that modifies all our preconceived notions about Catholicism. This unique work taps varied viewpoints to capture the whole tradition from which Mary springs.
Judith’s premise rests on the idea that the Virgin Mary of today is really a composite figure of all the Goddesses that went before her. Mary has not been fully recognized as such because her power has been veiled by centuries of patriarchal rule, her “Being” exclusively owned by the Church. Consequently, she has been unavailable to all women. This new view of Mary is an opportunity to broaden our understanding and extend Mary’s range of influence. Today’s society wants questions answered, aside from this primary purpose Mother Goddess, is an enjoyable and easy-to-read book. In this work Goddess culture comes into community with Marian phenomena through historical and experiential weave. All women will be empowered by what they read; freed from the chains and shackles of patriarchy Mary emerges as a Goddess all women can claim.
Judith's extensive experiences abroad have enabled her to study various cultures and religions firsthand. The personal research done over subsequent visits to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, prepared her for this unprecedented investigation into the Virgin Mary as a Goddess. Judith’s unique experience with the subject matter and her religious studies background give this work a fresh perspective, making it a substantial contribution to Goddess literature. In this work she deftly weaves psychology, spirituality, religion, dream interpretation, and experiential encounter making A Mother Goddess for Our Times a book broadly accessible to everyone.
Judith Lambert has an MA in Religious Studies. She believes her investigation has enabled her to lift the veil society has placed on Marian worship so that we can come to fully understand Mary as a goddess for our times. Judith has learned to see beyond rigid doctrine to the enervating principle of feminine worship. A commuter between two worlds; she lives abroad for part of each year in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Gabrielle’s Magical Pets
Gabrielle was born overseas in Saudi Arabia to parents living abroad. Her life has been filled with sunshine, travel, music and art. Her favorite things are playing with friends and family, reading, going to school, and watching TV with Frisky. Gabrielle’s first book became an enjoyable tandem project for mother and daughter to do together.
Had I not kept Gabrielle’s early drawings, I would have missed the rich and diverse attachments she was making. I believe our personal psychology is revealed through art and is especially poignant in the young. Pictures are a significant way of communicating a child’s worldview. Discovering the meanderings of Gabrielle has caused me to ponder the personal themes and art of the many children I’ve come to know.
